Jim Branson is the founder of a dog rescue organization called Useless Bay Sanctuary where search dogs are also trained. Two years ago he found a beautiful German Shepherd dog in a Washington forest. The cute little dog was about to give birth . Just the day after she was rescued, a sweet puppy named Tino was born .
Dogs are excellent at searching for animals and lost people, since their sense of smell is 40 times more sensitive than that of humans.
Jim decided to help Tino and took him to the shelter to see if he could adjust to his new life. The puppy turned out to be one of the most outstanding rescuers to find lost dogs. At first Jim just took him as a chaperone to search dog training, but Tino surprised them all with his innate talent .
“We evaluated him when he was five months old. Since he did so well we started training him and he always managed to find all the lost puppies in his training sessions.”
Tino worked very hard and was always very happy during his training; so he eventually became one of the most prominent members of the Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue . Recently, Jim received a call asking for help to find a puppy that was lost in the woods and was also deaf , which is why it was very difficult for the dog to hear the call of the rescuers.
The lost puppy was no less than 11 years old.
It was about old Puppy, a very old dog who got lost while trying to follow his owner during a horse ride . When they realized that they could not find him, they began to look for him throughout the area , but night came and they could not find him , so the owner spent the whole night very worried.
Tino’s training lasted just over a year.
The next day Jim headed to the site with Tino and showed that he was willing to return the favor with which they had saved his mother a few years ago.
“Once we gave him an object with Puppy’s scent on it , he ran off wherever he found the dog’s scent.”
After 45 minutes of tireless searching , Tino began to bark loudly to get people’s attention. He had found little Puppy in a mud pit and seemed extremely relieved that they had come to help him .
“When we saw Puppy we had a hard time realizing it was him because two-thirds of him was covered in mud, but Tino wouldn’t stop barking and we knew it was the dog.”
Tino was a true hero . Little Puppy couldn’t get out of the mud on his own.
“It was so stuck that we had to get three people out.”
Tino did a great job today, finding this old dog stuck in the mud. The dog’s name is Puppy, and he is 150 pounds and 11 years old. He had been missing for about 40 hours when we started searching for him at 5 AM. Tino followed the scent trail to a mud hole about a mile from the house, deep in the woods. It took three people pulling on ropes to get Puppy out of the mud. His back feet weren’t working at first, probably because he had been stuck in the cold mud for hours. The woods go on for many miles, and Puppy’s family may not have found him without the help of a search dog. This was Tino’s first “Walk up find” of his career, on his third official search. He has been training for about 16 months.

Now the sweet Puppy will be able to return home safe and sound and we hope that the cunning Tino will continue to save the lives of many more puppies.
We invite you to share this heartwarming story to celebrate Puppy’s rescue.
